Has the overall quality of Pure Red Line shrimp in Europe gone backwards since the golden era of Japanese breeders? I was looking through the images of recent winners at the Dortmund shrimp show and the quality just doesn’t compare! I don’t want to sound like i am blowing my own trumpet but i was the first person to bring Benibachi and Ebi Ten lines into Europe, i have seen these shrimp first hand. The quality, even back then, seems miles ahead of what is currently being shown at competitions.
What is the cause of the decline in quality of Pure Red Line shrimp available in Europe.
- Unfashionable Shrimp – Could it simply be a case of PRL going out of fashion? Without the first ever CRS mutation this hobby probably wouldn’t exist in its current form. Have the majority of people simply fallen out of love with the shrimp that got them into the hobby? Have standards slipped because the number of people breeding them has declined?
- Private Collectors – I know of some incredible shrimp that rarely get seen on social media, they certainly never make it as far as shows or competitions. Could it be that private breeders and collectors are keeping the good quality shrimp within their inner-circles and not selling or trading to the public?
- No Incentive – Is there lack of incentive from shows and competitions to entice people with higher quality shrimp to enter shows. I know when i have entered shows in the past there was encouragement to auction my shrimp off after to help with funding the competition. Something i didn’t want to do. There is also a financial burden involved in travelling to shows.
- Allow them to pursue new interests – Encourage your children to take up new interests and pursue them. Set achievable goals on their particular interests so that when they achieve them, it will give them a sense of accomplishment that will boost their self-esteem.
You need to use your influence in the correct manner in the early lives your children, so that they grow into responsible, competent and confident adults.
